Think Outside The Book
Company Name Etymologies

In my previous posts I have talked about the nuances and basics of Numbers.  I am sure that by now some of you would have started hating me for it. Math has that sort of effect on some people but I would like to remind you of a quote by Gandhi - "Hate the sin but love the sinner" J To avoid getting hit by rotten tomatoes, I would like to talk about another passion of mine - quizzing.

When I was in IIT Kharagpur, the quizzing bug bit me. Thanks to that passion, I travelled most of East India to participate in various quizzes. I dragged my reluctant friends to Durgapur, Kolkata, Mesra and once even all the way to Allahabad. We did end up winning a few quizzes but the journey was a reward in itself.

After college, I started working in Kolkata but the options to participate in quizzes became really limited and hence I started conducting quizzes to keep the fire alive. This endeavor once again took me to various places in India and more importantly, it kept me in touch with quizzing and hence knowledge.  I love to conduct quizzes and do so at every given opportunity. In case, you are ever looking for a quizmaster - do not forget to give me a buzz.

Have you ever thought:

  • How did the founders decide whether to call the company Hewlett Packard or Packard Hewlett?
  • Which city does CISCO get its name from?
  • What is the full form of Vodafone?

I have compiled a book on company name etymologies, with the help of a friend - Avinash. You will find answers to all these questions and many such questions in this book. To download this book you need to have a twitter / facebook account. Once you click on the download button, it would ask you to post a tweet or status update. Then download link would become active and you would be ready to enter the world of awesomeness. Have a great time reading.

In case you face a problem with download, email me at handa@handakafunda.com I would mail you a free copy.

Cheers,

Ravi Handa
